Conference HallThe 2016 BAISIS conference took place on Friday 04 March in Birmingham. It was our biggest event ever with 95 participants from UK independent schools and colleges joining to hear speakers from leading universities, schools and law firms, and enjoying the opportunity to make new contacts with colleagues in other schools and renew old ones.

A packed conference hall heard Professor Barry Hymer’s opening address to the conference on Mindset Theory. An inspirational speaker, Barry got the day off to a buzzing start. Other notable speakers included Sam McCarter author of a number of IELTS coursebooks, Alice Reeve of Veale Wasborough Vizards who briefed delegates on recent developments in safeguarding and Prevent, and Pat Saini, immigration partner with Pennington Manches LLP, who provided delegates with an update on Tier 4. BAISIS members ran a series of practical sessions on classroom best practice for EAL and other subject specialists. The day finished with a presentation by Professor Nigel Healey of Nottingham Trent University, an expert in internationalisation of universities, who draw a number of thought-provoking parallels between the experience of ed
